Weebly Web Page

a.) What was the assignment?
** The assignment that we were given was to create a professional portfolio on a website called weebly.

b.) What did you like/dislike about the assignment and the weebly.com software?
** I think that the weebly software was a great one to use. If i had to say something that i disliked maybe it would be that i wished that the items we added to the page could be moved around freely. I guess more freedom to move things around and set them up the way we wanted to have them on the website.

c.) How would you compare/contrast a webpage like this with a blog?
** I think i like this a little more than i like a blog because i had some difficulty working on my blog. On the blog some of the things that i wanted to put up did not want to work, but on the weebly it was easier to add pictures and other things you wanted to you page.

d.) How would you use this as an educator in the future?
** You could use this if you were applying for a job your potential employer could go to your web page and find all the information they needed about you. you could also use it in the classroom with your students and have them create their own website (upper grade maybe)

Elluminate Live

1.) Describe the distance Ed tool Elluminate Live.
** Elluminate Live is a distance education tool (software) that allows for students and people from around the world to participate in a class online. It enables people from all around the world to come together in one online space to conduct a class or lesson through the means of a headset. When you are on the program you cannot see the other people who are participating in the class but you can talk, hear, and chat with them.

2.) Explain the activity re listening and interacting with guest speakers world-wide?
** We had the chance to use elluminate live in our ed480 class to meet online with out two guest speakers. i found the experience to be very rewarding and informational. I got to attend a presentation from the comfort of my own bedroom. in the beginning i experienced some problems because the head set that i had was not working properly and i could not talk, but at least i could hear all that was happening during the presentation so i guess it was ok. The other things that are cool about elluminate live is that there is a chat where the participants can chat while in the session so even if you cant talk you can still chat and everyone can see what you are saying. There is also a white board that you can add pictures to, type larger, basically use it as a white board as if you were in a regular class. You can also add powerpoint and even show websites to the rest of the participants.

3.) What were the positives and the negatives of elluminate?
** I think some of the negatives might be that if the connection sucks then the whole experience sucks, and if your headset is not working then you would not be able to talk during the presentation. the positive is that people from all around the world can get together and talk or even have class online.

4.) How might you see yourself using that in the classroom?
** it would be a good thing to try. maybe in the classroom if you know any teachers off island or in other schools you can have your classes meet online for a presentation.

Language Learners and Tech

1.) How was your experience of presenting using slideshare?
** I found it to be fun because everyone had access to my powerpoint at the time that i was presenting it to the class. and the extra links added to the powerpoint were easy for everyone to access.

2.) What were the challenges?
** Some challenges that i came across was that because i use Microsoft 2007 powerpoint and some of my slides got distorted when i up-loaded my powerpoint to slideshare.

3.) what was helpful?
** The fact that it is online and everyone has access to it and can all be looking at it at the same time.

4.) if you had the chance to do it over what would you do differently?
** I was satisfied with my presentations i think maybe i would just practice more before i present it to the class

5.) any other feed back?
**Everyone did a great job during the presentation!! i loved being able to use the links at my own convenience and being able to work at my own speed.

2/21/2009

Today we got to look at different websites that we could use to create different puzzles for our students. It was fun because now we have a lot more tools that we could use to help us when we become teachers. I liked it because it was simple and all we had to do was think of the words to input. Because it is so fast teachers could even use it as a filler, for example if your bilingual teacher is absent the teacher could just go online and create a quick puzzle for the students. This helps students learn because you could make it meaningful and connect it to your lessons in the class and what a better way for students to learn then through a puzzle they love to play games.

My Life Timeline activity

For Class today (2/14/2009) We were assigned to create a time line of 8 important dates in our life. it was fun and i liked how we could do it on the internet. i liked the website but i think it would have been better if we could have been able to save it online. so that we could have accessed it another time. This website would be useful if you need to have your students create time lines in your class. you could even use it for like an icebreaker activity to have your students introduce themselves with a time line.

WebQuest Project

For Class last Saturday(2/7/2009) we were instructed to create a WebQuest project in class. It was a great experience. We had to come up with a project to post on our WeQuest page so that when our students access the WebQuest they can see what they are supposed to do during their assignment. we were instructed to complete an introduction, task, process, evaluation, conclusion, and the teacher page. We decided to use Animals as our theme and have the students research the different types of animal groups around the world. This was a really great activity, i wish we could have a chance to do this in the public school because not only will it give the students a chance to use technology, but it will also give them a chance to practice how to research online. I enjoyed it because it is another new resource that i can add to my list of teacher resources for when i begin teaching.
